From My Closet - Diwali Outfit

Happy, happy Diwali, you guys! <3

It's been a crazy month spent shooting and working and I cannot wait to share all the looks with you guys! Most of October just flew by and festivities are already in full swing. Speaking of my Diwali outfit, this time I consciously chose to not buy something but instead put together an outfit from what I already own.

This yellow lehenga was picked up by my aunt during an exhibition in Pune. I'd asked her to look for something yellow that was quite simple. It's the kind of lehenga that reminds me of Alia Bhatt's look from 2 States. I have way too many reds and pinks when it comes to ethnic outfits and yellow has been my current obsession for a while now!

My mom picked up a lehenga sari from a place in Mumbai called Indrani sarees earlier this year. The pallu half of that saree is what I've used to drape over this yellow lehenga and give it a saree look. I love the floral embroidery on the border! The golden blouse is a simple choli I got stitched last year for a friend's wedding. I think it's a great idea to invest in a couple of blouses like golden, sliver and maybe black.

Overall this outfit is on the simpler side. To give it a more traditional touch, I tried something I learnt from my aunts. I used a Kathiyawadi dupatta as an add-on on the side of the lehenga. This is commonly done when an outfit is sort of plain or simple.

I went easy on the accessories with some bangles, a kundan neckpiece and earrings and a gold clutch. As for the makeup, it was all very basic with the exception of the blue colour on my eyes. I love how instead of a lipstick, sometimes an eyeshadow can add that perfect pop of colour to any look. What's really different about this look though is my hair. Instead of just blow-drying it or opting for a bun, my hair was styled into a messy braid. Although I was quite apprehensive in the beginning because my hair doesn't really have good volume, I was quite happy with the overall look. I'm definitely more willing to experiment with different hairstyles.

I hope you guys enjoyed going through this post of how I put together an ethnic outfit. Lots of love - M!
